Introduction

kasahorow's mission is to enable local languages remain a viable form of communication for all aspects of life.

An important part of fulfilling this mission is to enable communication between languages by translation. Anyone who can acquire information in one language and explain it in another is a translator. This document provides some straightforward guidelines for improving your written translation work.

Tools

1.

A computer with an Internet connection
2.

A dictionary
kasahorow provides online dictionaries for use at www.dictionary.kasahorow.com

The Translation Procedure

1. http://pm.suuch.com:8080/scheduler gets you access to the kasahorow Translators' Manager.
2. The kasahorow translation manager aims to make translations easy in such a way that they can be made online.

The translation manager encompasses several separate entities working together:

1. The user management system where users log in with a password so as to get the tasks assigned to them
2. The file management system whereby a user may manage files from (upload, download and convert into different formats
3. The actual translation manager where users can edit files assigned to them as tasks

This manual aims to bring to light the general functioning of the core of the system. I will describe how to

> Create a task
> Upload a file
> Convert a file
> Use the editor

Lets look at each one at a time.

Creating a task
------------------

On successful logging into the system, a user can create a task by clicking on the link labelled "New Task" on the main pane of the application. This action will open a page where you may enter the details of the task such as its title, the person you are assigning it to, etc. Since these are mainly translation tasks, there is need for a file to be attached to the task you are creating. The easiest way to do this is to upload a file first before you create the task. I will describe how this works in the next section.

Uploading a file
------------------
File upload works with files of the formats PDF, ODT, txt and doc. Other file formats are yet to be given support. The file upload utility may be accessed from the 'File Manager' link on the main panel. Sinply browse for the file you desire to be uploaded and click upload and the rest will be done.

The uploaded file is then copied, and the original is stored as is, for backup purposes. the copy is then renamed and converted to text format so that it can now be manipulated from a HTML text area. The converted file is renamed to kw_ so as to differentiate it from the original.

Any translation work is done on the copy so that there always is a backup to turn to incase anything goes wrong.

Converting a file
--------------------
Files can be converted from any format that OpenOffice can open to any other format that OpenOffice can export to. This is possible from the file manager on the left pane.

Using the Editor
-------------------
So far, the editor is a pretty simple HTML text area that you may type in. Clicking on the icon of the floppy diskette saves your file, clicking on the 'abc' icon opens a spell checker.

Enjoy your translations.
